RR is getting all GTD

RR Anderson is using Google Spreadsheets for his Getting Things Done action item manager. He was inspired by my 4 page practical guide for GTD. I'm honored.

Of course, being RR, the lists include some pretty wonderful things.

Check out this video I shot of him for Exit133. It's about a year and a half old, but I think it still holds up.

7 hours of filing done. Mind like jelly. But feeling a real sense of accomplishment.

I kid about it, but really a day of filing is the best way I know to learn an organization quickly. I'm actually enjoying this!

Oh! And here are the saved operating instructions for a pencil sharpener. Wait, where does the pencil go again?

Filing at work. Found a file labeled "bids to consider" with a quote for a daisy wheel typewriter, complete with test pages of typing. Only $130!

Today's message is brought to you by the letter F, which stands for Filing. Which is what I'm doing. All day long.

The Getting-Things-Done President

it looks like Obama is having a checklist presidency. Yes, his agenda is being passed, but much of it feels compromised. The president appears to be delegating far too many details to Congress in order to keep Getting Things Done.

This article goes after Obama for being too focused on passing legislation than on passing "good" legislation. I think that that argument has some merit, so what I really want to say is that the article is a misreading of GTD.

The goal of GTD is not to just cross things of the list. It's to have something be actually done. And if you pass a compromised and/or incomplete bill, then you can't really say you "Fixed Healthcare" so that you take the project off your plate.

I'm open to the argument about how Obama's handled his agenda. But I think the article is flat wrong on GTD.

Erik's Practical Guide to Getting Things Done

(download)

I have enough friends who are interested in David Allen's "Getting Things Done" that I put together this document. This is how I have used "GTD" over the last year to great success.

Download and see what you think! Feedback always welcome.
